Not just one, but a Family!
My name is Charlene, I am the sites administrator.
BUT "We" are a Christian, homeschooling family of 3 children. And this is our project! Our ages range from 3 to 7 years, so all the information is child tested before coming to this site.
Our aim is to learn and pass on 100 ASL words over the school year and document them on this site for you.
We are using Baby sign resources, our ASL course, internet sources and our daily life signing needs to come up with the most common and easy words you can teach to your babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

Charlene's Story
We chose to learn American Sign Language (ASL) as our second language as a homeschool family. And WOW, what a privilege and blessing it has been for us all!
When our second child was born, he had an undiagnosed medical condition that had him crying for 2 1/2 years and unable to talk. How I wish I had these resources as a young Mom.
Our youngest, an energetic three year old, has learned to finger spell his name and can request food and water and displays his manners well with his hands.
He had been resistant to learning to talk, as sometimes happens to a third born when his siblings speak so well for him. At the same time we began signing, his vocabulary suddenly burst open as he began to realize he could share his opinion and get exactly what he wanted by asking for things himself.
We are a relatively noisy household, but learning ASL has taught us how to refocus our attentions and gives us a tool to express ourselves respectfully to one another.
It also refocuses their anxieties. If a child becomes demanding, I ask them to hand sign their request, which takes the excitement and attention off their "want" and thus more open to respecting my answer.
I have noticed since we started signing that it has improved motor skills in the children, giving them better hand dexterity and coordination.
I am by no means an expert in sign language. But I do promise to diligently research the information given on this site with trusted and expert sources. And I hope you to will find enjoyment in learning to sign with your children!
